Can I have you help please ?
« on: Wednesday 13 April 11 14:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am quite new at researching my family and I am having trouble finding this family on many of the  census
John Valentine bc 1804 Caputh Perthshire  married Jane Finlay  b 1811 St. Monance Fife I can find no marriage date or birthdates for their family and have been unable to find them on many census all I have for family for them are William b c 1842 John b c 1850 and Margaret b 1852 I have all the marriages deaths etc. on these children I am trying to find out if there might be more
John b c 1804 was the son of John Valentine and Marjory McLagan this is from his death certificate
I again have no date of marriage for them and trying to find out if John had any brothers or sisters.

Thank you,
babbie

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

You say you have all marriage and death certs for children William, John & Margaret

Where and when did they each marry and who did they each marry?

Presume John & Jane's details came from the childrens marriage/death certs - is that correct?

Hi,
Thank you for your welcome I hope you will bear with me I have never taken part in a forum before.
This is my information
William marrried Ann Gibson 1867 in Coupar Angus family rumours say he died abroad but I don't know where
John married Elizabeth Watson 1876 Dumbarton I have found children for them starting in 1887  he died in 1905
Margaret never married she died 1903 in Dundee
from their death certificates I found Johns parents as John Valentine and Marjory McLagan
Janes as John Finlay and Elizabeth Marr who married in North Leith Edinburgh in 1803

Is this William in 1871 living at 16 South Church St,  Lochee, Angus - all b Lochee except William snr

William Valentine 26 b Forfar

I can see Margaret in the 1901 - aged 47 b Dundee and she has one of John & Elizabeth's daughters with her(Jane b 1885).  Margaret is a shopkeeper/grocer

Probably Margaret in 1891 - shown as nephew

Mary Finlay 70 sister b St Monance
Margaret Valentine 39 (nephew) b Dundee occ housekeeper

I think I may have found them in 1861 as BALLANTINE.  However - birthyear for Jean/Jane is right but you would need to check the actual image on SP as I suspect John should be 57 not 37

60 Albert St Dundee

John Ballantine 37 joiner b Dalbethy Perth
Jean 49 b St Monance Fife
William 18 b Pittenweem, Fifeshire
John   11 b Dundee
Margaret   9 b Dundee
Dundee ED 29 Page  18 Line 24

Hi,
Thank you both for your input . William on 1871 census is not the William this one married an Ann Rea
in 1861 cenus yes that is them and John should be 57 .

I think you are right that is one of John and Elizabeths daughter have found their marriages and one of their deaths rest will have to wait until I can get a trip to Edinburgh.

Thank you
babbie
