Thankyou Tati,
nothing is ever that simple is it.  ;D

Now Thomas married in 1853 to a Anne Clarkson, she was b.c. 1828, Hornby.

Perhaps he was working around Hornby and that is how he met her.  Just a thought !

Tati - thanks for putting me straight on 1841!  ;D

I use FindMyPast, and it simply will NOT bring up "Chrisr" when I search for either Chris or Christopher!

I didn't know that limitation before! Must bear it in mind in future ;D

(Can't you just do a search for anything starting with 'Chr' or 'Chris', K?)

An Ann Clarkson age 24 born Harnby Yorks is working as a Housemaid for the Rector of Fingall in 1851, so I reckon the originally found Thomas (living Fingall with parents Thomas & Mary in 1851) still looks like a very possible match. I'm not sure how to find out without getting the 1853 marriage cert  :-\

yes, I agree, the marriage certificate is the only way to be certain of fathers name. For both Christopher and Thomas just to verify that they are brothers. Thankyou.
There is nothing suitable on IGI to help out either.  :(

The find for Ann Clarkson  looks good, on other docs her birthdate was circa 1828. hmm so she was in Fingall then.
So is it Harnby or Hornby?  Got the name Hornby from a certificate but must have read it incorrectly.

Thomas and Ann are my contacts direct line so this is great information for her as well as lots to consider.

Thankyou both for your wonderful help.

cheers
Margaret

It looks like Harnby on the census image but I'm sure it should be Hornby.
(Genuki doesn't seem to know of a Harnby anyway!)

Just blundering in here without checking the census Tati, but could it read Harmby ? Harmby would be more likey to be linked with Finghall, than Hornby.

Hi I do not think it is a failing of the "Wild Card" facility of FindMyPast (Which I use on a regular basis for both christian and surnames) !, but for the simple fact that page number 15 has not been transcribed by them!
