I haven't any credits for Scotland's People left but there is only one Robert Stewart aged between 21 and 23 in Thornhill showing in the 1871 census.  Definitely worth having a look at the family.  He should have wife Janet, son James and Elizabeth with him on the census.  Remember to save the image!  ;D

Search criteria are Stewart, Robert, age 21-23, census county Perth, District Kincardine (Perth)

Stewarts are notoriously difficult in this area, there are hundreds of them (inc mine!)  ;D  Good luck!

edited to add
I started off age range 20-35 and have now narrowed his age down to between 22-23.

Aha!  There is only one birth of a Robert Stewart with a father James in Stirling between 1848 - 1850 showing on Scotland's People.

Lucky you! This could be one of the easier ones.

It should be relatively easy to find Robert/Janet's death certs there are census entries for both (matches ages) right through to 1911 on Scotland's People and still living in Perthshire.

Hi all - Just went through my files and have the following.
Elizabeth Bayne Stewart, was sister in law to my g/grand Aunt, if you can get your head around that  ;D.

So -
Her parents were Robert Stewart 1849 and Janet McGregor 1849-1916.
Marr - 11 Dec 1868 GRO386/A0 0014 Muthill.
Parents of Robert as per marr cert are listed as JOHN Stewart and Jane McCulloch.  Parents Janet Peter McGregor and Elizabeth Bayne.
Janet died 15 Apr 1916 Doune Mill Cottage GRO362/00 0013 informant Robert Stewart (husband).
Have no death for Roberrt..it states in the 1901 census he was born Cornton, Stirlingshire  ??? but have not been able to prove this (as yet) on this census he is a cotton mill carter at Kincardine.

If you want any further info..get back to me and I will double check files..I have twelve children listed for Robert and Janet  :o

Right - found death for James.

GRO502/01 0009 Informant Kenneth McDonald (son) Police Station Rosneath.
Age at death 75. Widower of Elizabeth Stewart. parents- Kenneth McDonald (crofter) decd & Catherine MacMillan. Cause - carcinoma of bowel.
Address. Clyder Cottage Rosneath.
Seems to be a problem with occupation as is down as Torpedo operator ?? there is a side clause which is hard to read later omission/submission ? m.coll 6 whatever that means.

I'm not surprised there are more children tbh as the IGI listing was at the end of the parish registers.  Or were there some born in Stirlingshire?  I noticed some but just wasn't sure if they were the same couple.

This is all excellent stuff for a newbie.  I can't wait for MARYS1995 to come back onto this thread, what a surprise she's going to get!  ;D
