Crew List: TAGLIONI
« on: Sunday 17 April 11 07:14 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I have been researching an Edward Neil who came to Australia and changed his name to David Neil when he arrived in South Australia in 1861.  We think he has changed his name so he didnt have to return to London.  He came over on the Mary E Ray and is listed as BOY aged 17 from Dublin.  Edward has lied about his age on the Mary E Ray. He was  only about 11 or 12.

The ship I am now looking for is the TAGLIONI.  This is the ship listed as the one he was on before he got on the Mary E Ray.
He disembarked from the Taglioni in December 1860 in London and got on the Mary E Ray on 5 January 1861 in London.

I have found the OFFICIAL NUMBER to the TAGLIONI 572.

I have been unable to find any reference to the TAGLIONI on the National Archives Kew Website.

All help will be much appriciated
Thanks in advance

Here is some information about the Talglioni - might give you a few pointers as to where to look for crew lists:

Did you find crew list for Mary E Ray or Taglioni?  I am also looking for crew lists - particularly Mary E Ray as my ancestor was a crew member and jumped ship in Port Phillip, Australia.

Hi  I found both the crew list for the Mary E Ray and the Taglioni,  I was unable to read the ship name he was previously on before the Taglioni.   The ship he was on previous had travelled to Portugal.  He would have been a very young lad as I have worked it out he was really only 13 or 14 when he arrived in South Australia and not 17

Hi Kish, My great grandfather was Valentine Devereux from Wexford in Ireland and as I mentioned he jumped ship from the Mary E Ray.  He faced court for that misdeed and his punishment was 10 days of hard labour! But I have never been able to find when he became a crew member and where the ship left from and when.  I would be very grateful if you have even one answer to any of my questions.
Regards
Helen

Could you tell us from where you obtained the crew lists for 1860 for TAGLIONI. On paper they should be at TNA but I could not find them in their catalogue.

thanks SW
