Hi

Can we have a timescale please?  When was she born, when and where did she marry (England or Scotland) , when did she die?

Can you also clarify exactly what type of info you are looking for and also tell us what you already have so we don't  duplicate it

The only Joan Farish b Dumfries was b 1850 Kirkbride/Durrisdeer and was Joan Ann

Yep sorry about the lack of detail she was born in Annan about 1800 and I believe got married to Peter Davis in 1821 in Annan, during the mid 19th century she moved with her family to Carlisle where she died the date I dont know.  I should say also she was my G/G/Grandmother.

I take it this is the marriage you are refering to:

JOAN FARISH = PETER DAVIS
13 NOV 1821
Annan, Dumfries

(IGI extracted record)

Have you checked this marriage on Scotland's People in case it gives further information?

Do you have the family in any censuses? Did Peter die in England or Scotland?

Wiki gives these as Septs of Ferguson Clan which sound closest to Farish:
Farries, Ferrie, Ferries, Ferris(s)

Sometime ago I had information from somewhere that what could be the family were living in 177 Burgh South Side Annan in 1811 and 1821 in 217 Windmill.  Peter never seems to be around, the only Peter Davis I could ever find was actually born along the coast in Whithorn and I believe the same one died in Mile End in London, other than that presumably he was a sea most of the time.  I have never been on Scotands People although I do keep threatening to go th the Records Office but never get there as i live in Southern England no excuse I know.

Once again I was told some time ago that Farish was a sett of Ferguson but the Clan records do not confirm this.

Um, it would be interesting to know what records give the whereabouts of the family in 1811 and 1821 ... presumably this would be the Farish family? As it was before the marriage of Joan and Peter, then might Joan have been spotted with her family in 1811? The 1821 sighting may have been the marriage?

Do you recall who gave you this information? Were they also tracing the Farishes?

You really need to be using Scotland's People for Scottish research.  :)

Curiosity got the better of me.

I have downloaded the Farish/Davis marriage entry from Scotlands Poeple. If you send me your email address via Personal Message, I will attempt to forward it to you. Click my name or the scroll under my name to send a PM.

Unfortunately there is no further information.  :(

Do you know the names of all of Joan and Peter's children? If so it might be worth investigating the possibility that they followed the Scottish naming pattern, and maybe get a clue about their parent's names?
