Conway - Owen/Legh
« on: Monday 18 April 11 10:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on Catherine Owen, born about 1800 and married a Edward Legh in 1832 at Conway, died 1844 Lewisham, buried with husband in Lewisham Church Vault.

There is a coat of arms for Edward Legh and possibly in the middle one for wife's family, small shield black with scattered  silver stars.

Any help appreciated.

According to J.E. Griffith, " Pedigrees of Anglesey and Caernarvonshire families" (1914), p.366
Catherine Owen, who married Edward Legh,  was born 1799 in Hendrefeinws, Abererch, Anglesey
daughter of Edward Pugh Owen, Rector of Llaniestyn Botwnnog CAE and Mary Ellis of Llandrillo yn Rhos DEN.

for a partial transcription.

Another 19C genealogical work by Jacob Youde Lloyd gives a fuller description of the
family of Owen of Caer Berllan,  Llanfihangel y pennant, Merioneth, to which Edward Pugh
Owen belonged, including the heraldry of the family. The male line coat of
"Azure, a chevron inter three cocks argent, crested and wattled or" is illustrated.

"The History of the Princes, the Lords Marcher and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog and the Ancient Lords
of Arwystli, Cedewen and Meirionydd" (1881-1887). vol4. p.289 and p.429.

A more recent study by Peter Bartrum in "The Welsh Genealogies" has been extracted

Oops, Abererch is in the county of Caernarfon and not Anglesey.
