Many thanks, Jan.

I've ordered the certificate.
Now I can see that this may become an expensive hobby!

Many thanks to all who advised me on this search.

Yes, I just received the copy of Jane McCarroll's birth certificate from the GRO, and it confirms William McCarroll as the father and Kate McCarroll, formerly Cody, as the mother.

So also thank you, Daisypetal!
I've seen the name spelt McCarroll as well as McCarrel and other spellings.
This looks like the right marriage.
That marriage info provides Kate's maiden name & her father's name, as well as William's father's name.

The only nagging issue I have is that the marriage cert lists William McCarroll as a "Mariner"  while Jane's birth cert lists William as a "Currier (Journeyman)". I do know that he was a currier according to both the 1881 and 1891 census. Any thoughts on this?

The chances are that he gave up going to sea after he was married and found another job, ie as a currier.  My greatx3 grandfather did this and changed from mariner to engine fitter once he was married.

Glad that was the correct birth certificate.
