and this is what it says

the 1881 census was taken on the night of the 3rd april
so it would appear that samuel died soon after the census

sarah smith does not appear on the 1901 census
i cannot find a death of a sarah ann smith that would fit
this is the nearest to it i can find in the right dist that she was in in 1891
