I just happened to come across this snippet of news while searching Wisconsin newspapers.  Maybe someone will find it useful.

Milwaukee Daily Sentinel and Gazette, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 15 May 1850

“A letter from Ennis, Ireland, state [sic] that during the recent ravages of cholera in that district, where the deaths in a few weeks amounted to one thousand two hundred and sixty, not one member of a temperance society fell a victim.”
