Thank you so much for that information. I did find a record that may be ELizabeth in 1809 on IGI. Details are for Elspat Innes daughter of James Innes and Jane Baillie of Tain b 15 July 1809 and christened 23 July 1809. Do you think that might be here? It does say it's an extracted record so hopefully fairly reliable.

Would love the  downloaded images of the banns so will send a PM.

The problem is with a James as her father, unless she misinformed the church authorities in 1839 !
Aye
DDJJAKE
PS
Also there were no Jane nor James in her family with John Cameron .... as there should have been by Scottish naming procedures.

Good point! I had looked that up yesterday before I got your excellent info! Probably a brother or cousin.

That's great that you got  a date of birth for John Cameron in 1811. You can't work you rmagic and find his son John Cameron b circa 1846 Kirkcaldy can you? He's been evading me!

A government report into the state of OPRs in 1849 with a view to introducing compulsory registration of B/M/Ds from 1855, an extract from which attached here for Kirkcaldy, suggests the reason why we cannot find the births of the Cameron children, apart from William.

Go to www.archive.org and enter Scottish Parochial Registers in the Search Box, if you wish the whole book as a .pdf ... it is c. 4.5 megabytes.

They've not done very well in Kirkcaldy have they - no 1841 census and now the OPRs are mutilated! Looks like John's date of birth will have to remain a mystery then. Thanks you once again for all your efforts.

Was just trying to hunt down Rev Hugh McLeod of the Gaelic Church to see if I could work out where John and Elizabeth  were married. In September 1839 he became minister at Logie Easter Church - Logie Easter is where John Innes (Elizabeth's father) was born! Rev Hugh McLeod's wife was  Catherine Ross - John Innes' father was Catherine Ross! Can't help wonder if there was some connection there! Probably just coincidence....

Incidentally, Rev Hugh moved to Canada where he was Moderator of the Canadian Presbyterian Church. Two of his sons were politicians in Nova Scotia according to Wikipedia.

You meant ... John Innes' mother was a Cathrine Ross. Perhaps an early death of Alexander Ross and a re-marriage for his widow Cathrine Ross to Rev McLeod ... or another Catherine Ross altogether?

Oops - of course I meant his mother! ::)

Was wondering exactly that about a remarriage but can't quite work out if dates match or not. I think Catherine would have had to be having children for about 50 years for it to be the same one! Might explain why it wasn't the usual CofS minister when the Banns were called if they were somehow related. It is also the only one on that page which stated when the wedding was rather than just that the banns had been called. Strange.

I would like to thank DDJJake for all his help - he has been absolutely brilliant and has even kindly sent me copies of the records I hadn't previously found.

A real star of Rootchat!
