alice mcgeough Phillipstown / Blackrock
« on: Saturday 23 April 11 12:50 BST (UK) »
Hello there, my great grandmother was called Alice McGeough and lived in Blackrock. I would love to find her gravestone. I know it is not in Haggerstown cemetary. She originated in Phillipstown, would any one know of any cemetarys round abouts and of any ways I might locate it?

Perhaps giving us the date she died would help narrow down the choices.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Alice was born in 1868 and died in 1942 and was supposedly proprietor of the Little Swan Horel, Blackrock.

Kind Regards

I lived there during the 1960s and there was a man named Mc Geogh who owned the Swan. He had 2 daughters. I cant remember their names. It is possible that this lady was buried in Haggardstown OLD  cemetery, which is located on the old golf links road near Blackrock, a relatively short distance from the newer cemetery and Blackrock village. I dont think Mr mc Geogh lived in Blackrock. He travelled from North of the village I think. Perhaps if you check the registry of deeds you could get his address. He sold the place in the early seventies to a man called Oliver Murphy and it was later bought by a Mr P . Smyth.
Perhaps she is buried near the home of Mr Mc Geogh,so if you had his address, you might find her whereabouts. Alternatively you could phone the parochial house for Blackrock and ask them to check the registers.
Good luck
