George Freeman b. Whitehaven, Cumberland
« on: Monday 25 April 11 10:55 BST (UK) »
Hi there. Looking for any records at all for a birth/baptism of a George Freeman or similar between 1820-1832 in Whitehaven, Cumb. According to 1871 and 1881 Census he was born there but no luck at all identifying him. His father was George Freeman as well and was a Tailor or Clothier. Unsure if he was from the area or not. I'm getting a suspicion that he wasn't born in Whitehaven but may have travelled through there.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

The only George Freeman  b.about 1811 Hammerton Yorkshire- tailor- that I can find is married to Bessey living in Kirk Hammerton Yorks. 1841.  No son George is recorded as living with them, ever, but by 1871 George was still a tailor and employing 2 apprentices living at Gt. Ouseburn Yorkshire.  Bessey and George were married 1839 so she couln't be your George's mother, in any case.  Did you get this George from a marriage cert.?

Hi Albatross

I don't know if you've had a chance to see Whitehaven baptism records but if not I can have a look for you.

Best wishes
