WINGFIELD Ulmarra NSW, Arrival
« on: Monday 25 April 11 16:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,
had some success here getting a few more hints about my Coffey ancestors so thought I would try my luck again  ;D.

Am looking for the arrival of William Wingfield

Birth 24 Feb 1834 in Willingham, Suffolk, England
Death 22 May 1911 in Casino, New South Wales, Australia

In the 1851 census, I have him in Willingham Suffolk England, residing with his parents William and Elizabeth, the next time he pops up is when he then marries Mary Jane Howden 13 June 1858 in Irishtown ( I think this is Bass Hill) in NSW Australia.

Mary Jane's details are
Birth 1839 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia
Death 24 Jun 1896 in Coldstream, New South Wales, Australia

In 1858 William also moves to Ulmarra on the Clarence river, he moved around the Northern Riivers of NSW a bit in later life. He is buried in Ulmarra with his wife.

Bit of a mystery as to how or why he came to be in Australia.

Any information on his arrival would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi Debra,
       thanks for this.

Have come across George before as a possible brother but am not 100% sure. There are loads of WIngfields in the Suffolk area, the 1841 census does not have George lving at home with William and his parents but he would have been 18 so definitely old enough to be out on his own.

I think this George died in 1859, just after William came to the area, William's obituary does not mention this other branch of the family, was hoping on his arrival details it might shed some light on things like this.

cheers
Greg
