Are you certain he died in Mesopotamia? If so I'd expect him to have been buried there too.
Think about it, if he was dead already then he wouldn't need a medical evacuation, or a hospital ship, or a hospital in India.
Sounds to me like he died in India.

Could anyone tell me if any of these regiments were based at anytime pre/up to ww1 in Essex.

1st Bedfordshire Regiment
Border Regiment (any of them)

Can anyone tell me were i can find, what was sent home to the next of kin, when a soldier had died??
My Great was Charles Wright, died 7th Nov 1917, Mesopotamia, buried Madras Cemetery, Chennai
No 34368 Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment

you may find info on the absent voters list.

he would be entitled to the british war medal, the victory medal and the silver star badge.

his relative would be sent a scroll and bronze plaque (the death penny?)

his medal record will provide you with any further awards.

check out recent posts regarding mesopotamia as there is some confusion regarding being kia in iraq and buried in india.

If his record doesnt survive then you wont find anymore info reference what was sent home....Sometimes in the records it lists what kit was sent home.
Its usually wallets,photos,bibles etc.

Thankyou for your help. Have looked into everything re:-
Died in Mesopotamia, buried in Chennai.
The only thing i found out was he could have died onboard a hospital ship on route to india, (maybe ship in indian waters) as india was the medical evacuation centre from mesopotamia.???
What names did the hospital ships have, would they have lists of the soldiers that may have passed away on them???
If he did make it to india, where would he have gone? what hospital?

Have a look at the link its a possibility?
If he would have died on the ship I would think that he would have been buried at sea.
If he was evacuated to India and is buried there then the Chennai Hospital seems a good bet.
