some advice please
« on: Sunday 24 April 05 18:41 BST (UK) »
HI
According to James Gordon's army record he was born in Forfar in 1788, he joined the army (Royal Artillery) in 1811 in Montrose. I have looked for a baptism in Forfar and haven't found one, i did however find a James Gordon c.1790 in  Montrose the names of this James' siblings are the same as  my James' children, but does this mean anything? I have no idea if Montrose is near or covered by Forfar though i understand that forfarshire is now Angus. Could somebody please advise me as to what to do next.

Montrose was in the county of Forfar.

Have a look at the Genuki page for Angus:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/ANS/index.html

It may help you - it includes a parish map.
