Charles Griffiths
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 19:32 BST (UK) »
This is driving me nuts. ::)My 3x Great  Granfather Charles Griffiths on the 1841 census claims to be 45 yrs old and born in Oldswinford Worcestershire.I have spent 3 years going through IGI and even all Parish Records but cannot find him anywhere although there are dozens of other Griffiths' in the area.I have a possible marriage in 1816 for him at St Marys Chapelry Kingswinford but thats all.Someone suggested he may have been recorded on a non conformist register ,but as i havnt come across these before i am not sure.Does anyone have access to these or can point me in the right direction.Thanx Absolom

1841. Oldswinford, Worcestershire.
Charles Griffiths    45. Collier.
Elizabeth Griffiths    40.
Absalom Griffiths    15.
Amy Griffiths    12.
Mary Griffiths    10.
George Griffiths    7.
James Griffiths    5.

All born Worcestershire.

Is this him, ages in the 1841 census were some times rounded up or down for adults to the nearest 5 years.

On the 1841 census it only says born Worcestershire, but living in Oldswinford.

There were dozens of Non Conformist Chapels in that area, Charles could have been baptised in anyone of them, hardly any of the records have survived though, the ones that have survived such as Brierley Hill Baptist and Stourbridge Wesleyan Methodists are held at Dudley Archives.  Linell.

You could look up the Marriage of Charles Griffiths and Elizabeth Howells at Dudley Archives and see who the Witnesses were, maybe a relative?  Linell.
