I'm not sure as his name was Felthouse not Fieldhouse  ???
Its possible I suppose as he was living with his parents in 1871 and married in 1891
Also having trouble with his wife, Emily She is listed as Ellen on 1891 but on all subsequent cencuses she is Emily Her name was Emily Rowbotham Mason Could it have been a mistake on 1891?

Fieldhouse/Felthouse may sound similar in a Staffordshire accent. Or it may be a mistake -  either by the census enumerator (remember that the enumerators wrote up the returns from their books) or by the transcriber.

As far as 'son' goes, note that the surname does not tie up with anyone else in the household. This again could be a mistake.

It's up to you what you accept/reject:  all I've done is give you the only 20 year old called William born in Staffordshire whose name sounds vaguely like 'Felthouse'.

Have you looked at the actual images, or just at transcriptions?

Hello,

The problem with the William Fieldhouse from 1881 is that he is with the same household in the Brewood/Bishops Wood area in 1871 as he is in 1881.

One possibility is that both his employer and his family thought the other had put him on their census return, and neither had. I have had the opposite problem witha couple of my people - they are both listed twice.

The marriage to Emily was according to Cheshirebmd.org.uk at St Peter's, Prestbury, so it does look as though the 'Ellen' in1891 was an error.
