Whyte Family in Clones.
« on: Friday 29 April 11 19:30 BST (UK) »
Hey everyone, I recently started my family research.  It's quite confusing and frustrating!
I'm trying to find Whytes in Clones.  This is all the info I have for now.  If anyone could steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.   I am planning a trip to Ireland in Feb, I'm hoping to find some family there.

My great mother Elizabeth Whyte was born 8, July 1893 in clones

Her mothers name was Mary Whyte, I dont have a birth date for her,  but she did live on Alnore Street in Clones.

Elizabeth Whyte married James Allen (whose parents were James Allen and Catherine Mckenna)

Had three child , (*) 1923 in clones
                          (*) 1922 in Blantyre, Scotland
                          (*) 1920 in Blantyre, Scotland.

Last permeant address was in Hamilton, Scotland

They sailed out of Glasgow 19, September 1930 on the ship Cameronia.

If this is not the proper place to ask this, please let me know, as I do not want to offend.  Thank you!

(*) Moderator's Comment: recent details removed as these children might still be alive

this looks like the best match for Elizabeth's birth on the BMD INdex :

 Name: Elizabeth Whyte
 Registration district: Clones
 Event type: Birth
Registration quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1893
 Volume : 3 /  Page: 93

Do you have marriage details for Elizabeth ?
A cert should show her father's name and occupation and help confirm, or rule out, this particular birth

for notes on Irish Records, ordering certs see :

   Introduction to Irish Records
   Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Birth Cert

Thank you for your reply!  I do not have any marriage information on Elizabeth, however that is my next step!

I am currently waiting on a birth cert from the registry for William.  I'll look into marriage certs and others.  I didn't have the information I needed when I ordered the first time.

there's a possible match for the marriage of James and Elizabeth in 1917 :

 Name: James Allen
 Registration district: Clones
 Event type: Marriage
 Quarter and year: Oct-Dec 1917
 Volume : 3 / Page: 91

 Name: Lizzie Whyte
 [same references as James]

This is interesting!  Thank you for the link.  I will see what I can come up with.  Can I access these records myself?

they are from the Census online on the National Archives website - click the underlined links in my replies to view the transcripts. You can also view the original census form.

The details on the census are in the Introduction topic

You are quick!  Thanks for the help.  I can't view most of the things in the national archives for the USA online.  I actually have to go to the offices in NYC or DC.  And the only census my grandparents would be in is from 1940 and those won't be able for viewing until 2012.

Again thank you for your help.  I really hope I can find some family in Ireland, although they'd be distant, I still think it would be a wonderful thing.
