Catherine Forrest MITCHELL - Back from NZ?
« on: Saturday 30 April 11 08:04 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor who was born in Edinburgh, 1835, maiden name Lindsay. She left as an 18-year-old without her parents, probably because her mother died around 1840 and her father was remarried.

In NZ, she got married to a 30-year-old William Mitchell, when she was 19. Her first child died aged 3. I have no idea how many children she had, but her daughter Elizabeth Forrest Mitchell is my ancestor.

If she ever left to go back to Scotland, she did so after her daughter's marriage in November 1882. There is a Catherine Forrest Mitchell who died in Hawick, 1904. I would like to know if it's her.

Thanks

The death certificate for that year can be viewed on SP

It will give her parents names and the name of her husband if known by the informant.

I don't have an account, or live in Scotland if that matters. Could anyone help?

Thanks

Only way to confirm the info is to view the certificate on Scotlandspeople

It is a pay per view site but the costs are reasonable for the amount of information that they give.
