He died 13th jan 1971 but would like to find out abot his parents, they were george jolly and margaret ann green

The latest available census is 1911 and it's unlikely that James' parents would have been married then so your best hope of getting further back (if this is your aim) might be to order their marriage certificate which should give you their addresses and names of both fathers.

so if George and Margaret are his parents they have moved across town...Ashton on Ribble parish church is online on lan-opc ...have you checked on there yet ??

There is a death registration in Preston in December 1987 for a Margaret Ann Jolly with a birth date of 06/06/1900.

There is a christening of a Margaret Ann Green in Preston on 20/06/1900. Her parents are shown as John William Green and Alice (probably nee Heald).

In 1911, she and her family lived at Ashton on Ribble, where the 1923 marriage took place. GF

Birth Date 11 September 1896

George Snr was born c 1863 Whittle le Woods in 1901 Census. Wife Nancy has her age mistranscribed in both 1891/1901 Census.
Looking back I think she is the Daug of William/Mary Shuttleworth and born c 1864, Preston, Lancs
