COMPLETED WITH THANKS: Agnes Foggo and George Banks
« on: Wednesday 04 May 11 17:04 BST (UK) »
I've come to a bit of a halt on this set of Great Great Great Grandparents and wonder if anyone can help?

I have an Agnes Foggo who I think was married to George Banks although possibly not....

What I do know is that my Great Great Grandmother Ann Storie (ms Banks) lists George Banks and Agnes Foggo as her parents on her marriage record to John Storie in 1863 in Edinburgh. It doesn't say Foggo is her mother's maiden surname (though other records on that page show maiden surname) but on Ann Storie's death record the informant says it is.

Agnes is the informant on some Ann's children's birth records right up to 1876 but I can't find her death. By this point the family is in East Lothian, they have previously been in Edinburgh.

If anyone has info on this family I'd be really pleased to hear from you.

An update - I have just found Agnes death in 1899 on SP! I had previously been looking for Agnes Banks but she is listed under Agnes Foggo! Her death is registered by a daughter (though she is listed as single). It looks like Louisa Cowe or Gowe but from other records I have, I think it should be Gowans. So she must have had other illegitimate children.

Still would love to hear if anyone knows anything else about her or George Banks.

Hi Portybelle

The Louisa who registered mother's death, must be the same who shows with sister Ann and her Storie family on the 1871 census, born c. 1854 in Edinburgh.

Yes that's right Monica, I have that census return - that's what started bells ringing when I saw the name. Strangely Ann Storie's daughter's married name is Cowe! She was my great grandmother. I thought I was seeing things then realised it must be Gowans misheard.

Just read your other post - she must have had quite a few illegitimate children!

Do you have ancestry subscription? Would be interested to see what her profession is given as!  ;D

Haven't had any luck finding Agnes in the transcripts just from what you gave as info. Tried searching for Agnes with daughter Louisa (and also Janet) but no joy as yet.

From her death age, what was her approx. birth year? Have you found Ann Banks/Foggo on any census prior to her marriage?

Must have been born around 1821 as she was 78 when she died in 1899. I haven't looked for her on census so far as only just getting back to that generation now.

First I have of Ann Banks is when she marries John Storie in June 1863. I reckon she was born around 1843. She is listed as Banks even though her parents don't seem to have married.
