I have deaths now for Agnes (1899), Robert (1895) and Jemima (1913). The others seem to vanish off the census and could well have died pre 1855 of course. William was the only one I thought I had possibly found on the 1871 census but it seems not the correct one.

Just curious, what were the full names of Agnes' parents? Mother Joan and variants, her maiden surname? Her father?

Missing children, using that 1841 census list:

William 25 Lab
John 22 Lab
Miller 9

John and Miller still at home for 1851. William old enough to be off and away by a long way after 1841.

Possible for 1851:

Ann Foggs 60 b. Edinburgh
Agnes Foggs 30, formerly domestic servant, b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
John Foggs 22, Rail Labourer b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
Millar Foggs 19 , Rail Labourer b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
Robert Foggs 19 , b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
Ann Bank 7, granddaughter b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
Agnes Lessles 5 , granddaughter b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian
Infant (girl) 3 Months, granddaughter b. Duddingston, Mid Lothian

Address: Widow Foggo's, Easter Duddingston, Midlothian

You're right Monica - sorry, my mistake. Don't have them after 1851 and couldn't find deaths.

Parents names going by death records:

Agnes - born c 1821, died 1899, death record says mother Joan Scott ms Edgar, father Matthew Foggo

Robert - born c1832, died 1895: death record says mother Joan ms Scott, father Matthew Foggo.

Jemima Good or Foggo, illegitimate daughter of William Good a tailor. Born c 1838, married 1865 to James McIntosh and died 1913. The marriage record states that Joan was the widow of Matthew Foggo and not married to William Good! Her death record gives her mother's maiden name as Johanna Scott Edgar. (Presumably this means that Matthew Foggo died between 1832 and 1838)

The name Joan Scott Edgar then comes down the family right up to today but the Edgar part is only mentioned on some records.

Confusing for sure with similar name on mother on the other family (likely needs all double checking on records). Did you check mother Joan's death cert to see what that showed?

A maybe death for Miller FOGO (as indexed) in 1871 in Duddingston & Portobello, aged 41, so born c. 1830 which could well fit.

Annoyingly Joan's death record doesn't have any parents on it at all! Informant is her son-in-law (Jemima's husband). It just says Joan Scott Foggo widow of Matthew Foggo, gardener. She died from injuries as a result of a fall.

Just looked up the Miller Fogo death (1873) you suggested and thank you - it's him! Mother is given as Joan Foggo ms Scott and father Matthew Foggo gardener's labourer. His brother Robert was the informant. His occupation is given as a Greenwich Pensioner. Not entirely sure what that is - something military which might explain his disappearance from 1861 and 1871 census?

Oh, that all makes sense for Miller. You might be able to find some papers for him on TNA www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/search/advanced_search.aspx?homepage=ad-search&javascriptenabled=False ....but that is for another day!

OK, something is bothering me! The names here for William's parents www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,617529.0.html are much too similar. The main block seems to be the birth year showing for Agnes' brother in 1841. Have you viewed the original 1841? Wondering if there is an error and it should read in 1841 15 rather than 25. Similarly for brother John who shows in 1841 as 22, however, look at John's age in 1851 on the snippet I reposted above....wondering if also for John his age should be reading 12 in the 1841 census?

For sure, the William from the other post has to be Agnes' brother. Just checked the mc that Carole mentioned on the other post https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY97-WPD, to Ann Ross in 1862. He is a widower, which fits with the recent death of wife Louise. Parents Matthew Foggo, a deceased forrester (I would read that aka gardener) and Ann Scott. He shows as aged 34, so still working around that mid-1820s birth years and living at Wellington Place. One of the witness a John Foggo, likely the other missing brother from the family you would think.

Monica

PS: I'll send on further details re MC.
