Regarding John Foggo and family, this first wife may have been a Margaret Cain. Seven births showing here on family search (link shrunk) www.rootschat.com/links/0rfq/

John and Margaret's marriage from here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY9Q-VBN

Wonder if Margaret has died by 1871? Can't tell yet...

Added: I think John Foggo did remarry in 1871, to Ann Archibald (a good source to let you confirm his parents' details, often better than a death cert for accuracy  ::)).

The marriage entry I think - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYMQ-QN5
One daughter showing - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQSS-G6T

The family in 1881:

John Foggo 50 Hammerman Tramway b. Duddingston
Ann Foggo 48 b. Linlithgow
John Foggo 18, slater b. Restalrig, Midlothian
Robert Foggo 15 b. Restalrig, Midlothian
Ann Foggo 6 b. Portobello

Address: Blue Bell Court (from another of your posts - address rings a bell!) - so also showed as such in 1881.

Monica you are a star! Stopped to have lunch and look at what you found for me! Thank you so much! (And thanks to Carole for spotting the marriage in the first place).

That makes sense that the ages in 1841 were wrong - I have only a transcription not the original. It would explain why Agnes is above the boys when she was showing as younger which I did think was odd.

Have looked up the marriage of John to Ann and yes he is a widower father Matthew and mother Joan ms Scott. Will find his death later.

So family complete - wonderful! Thanks!

Did double check freecen for the 1841 ages earlier, and they showed like the other transcription so likely writing was hard to make out.

One last favour then Monica if you have time. Have done a search for John's death and there is a possibility showing in South Leith in 1904 age 75 giving birth year of c 1829. Before I use the last of my credits, could you see if you can find him in 1901 to see if he's in Leith?

Not sure about that possible death as yet in 1904.

There is this entry in 1901:

John Foggo 72 retired glassblower b. jappa, Midlothian
James Blackie 29 boarder
Euphemia Blackie 25, niece b. Portobello

Address: 5 Elgin Terrace, South Leith

However, I think John Foggo may have married for a third time in 1885 to a Marion Davidson. Possible death for second wife Ann in 1881 (must have been after the census as we have her then).

From 1891:

John Foggs 60 blacksmith (sure jumps about) b. Duddingstone
Marion Foggs 59 wife b. Ratho
Annie Foggs 16 b. Portobello (daughter with Ann Archibald?)
John Russell 14 nephew, Telegraph Messenger b. Calder

Address: 9 Shrub Place, Edinbugh St Cuthberts

Apart from the death in Leith in 1904 that you have found, there is also one in St Andrews/Edinburgh in 1900, aged 69. Might fit with location in that 1891 entry too? Specially as Marion Foggo shows as living alone in 1901:

Marion Foggo 71, annuitant b. Ratho
John Russell 24, boarder, Tramway Car Conducter b. Mid Calder

Address: 92 Albert Street, St Andrews/Edinburgh

You are good Monica! Took a chance on the St Andrew's one and he is the right one! Died March 1900, a hammerman. Father Matthew ploughman (fitting in with occupation of father on William's death) and mother Ann with no maiden name. Widow M Foggo informant and he died at Albert Street, Edinburgh.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your afternoon since you have kindly spent most of your morning helping me!
