Ah, OK - sorry for trying to be so lazy  ;D

Not at all - this has been great!

I searched the website you gave me earlier (Hertsfordshire Genealogy) and found a William Hagger, church clerk of Norton in the 1869 Kelly's Directory.

Could he have been a parish clerk all the time and just written 'ag lab' as he did that as well?

Again, thanks alot.

Just adding little bits.

Marriage 26 Dec 1859 Hackney St John
Alfred Wilsher, full age, bachelor, Packer, residence Mane Street, father John Wilsher, labourer
Susan Sharp, full age, spinster, residence Mane Street, father George Sharp, bricklayer
Witnesses James Currell and Emma Sharp
Emma and Susan sign, Alfred and James make their mark.

I suspect James Currell is Alfred's brother in law (remember Jabez Currell, grandson, in 1851). FreeBMD finds a marriage in 1842 Hitchin, Hannah Wilshere /James Currell.

This is good, Tati  :)

This family makes it easier because they seem to always have grandchildren over.  ;)

It's interesting that Alfred and Susan moved to Middlesex/London as Sarah's daughter Martha moved there as well with my g.grandfather.

I'm trying not to be greedy here, but...  I wonder if you could please help with the Haggar family as well??

This looks like them in 1841:

1841
HO107/438/14 8 11
Norton, Hertfordshire

Willam Hagger, 47, Parish Clerk, not born in county
Elizabeth, 50
Geo, 22, Lab
Frederick, 21
William, 16
Alfred, 14
Mary Ann, 11

Parents in 1851:

1851
HO107/1709 27 14
Norton, Hertfordshire

William Hagger, head, mar, 58, Farm Labourer, b. Beds (hard to read, possibly Stotfold)
Elizabeth, wife, 63, b. Herts Weston
Alfred, son, unm, 24, servant, b. Norton

Looks like William sr too could be the one you found in the directory.

Ican't see William or Elizabeth in 1861 - there are possible death registrations in Hitchin between 1851 and 1861.

I'm guessing you'll find extracted records for the family on www.familysearch.org

Ah, thanks alot for that Tati  :)

I search Free Reg and found a John Haggar, 70 yrs old buried in Norton, Herts in 1828. What struck me was his occupation, 'Parish Clerk.' It seems the Haggar's were the parish clerks for a while there.

Do you think 'servant' for their son Alfred means he was their servant?

Oh, and also Sarah and William Haggar's sons Benjamin and George were publicans in 1881 in West Ham, but I can't find either afterwards. Any ideas?

I'd venture he was a farm servant somewhere.

Are these Ben and George?

Oh yes, that seems like them.

George was buried in 1939 with his parents, and was retired in 1901; but I can't find Benjamin anywhere? (please bear with me, I'm only going my internet transcriptions eg 1901 census online and it's well known their transcriptions can be far off)

Thanks for finding them in 1891

Thanks Tati,

Actually I only had his details thanks to 1901 census online which shows people as individuals but not with their whole household - so that was quite helpful because I thought he had no children.

Hmmm... I can't find Benjamin either but then again, I couldn't find him in 1891 either.  ::)
