william surridge 1855 Publican Nr Witham
« on: Monday 25 April 05 14:45 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace William Surridge who is shown as publican at prince Albert at Ulting Nr Witham in 1855 - I have him on the 1861 census, still at Ulting and married to Amelia but would welcome any information prior to this date.

Thank you for the info - where was william surridge living in 1841? Surely at 15 he was not living on his own? In 1841 I have got Edward and ann Surridge living at Boreham in Essex with their children. I also have James and ann Sorrell living with their children in Boreham. Is it possible to look to see if there are any other Surridges/Sorrells/Thorogoods in this area in 1841? I am trying to untangle a big tangle so any help would be appreciated!
Thank you - Caroline

< where was william surridge living in 1841? Surely at 15 he was not living on his own? >

He is with 2 other young Ag Labs, on the farm of Joseph Jarvis.

I am assuming this is the William Surridge, born Althorne

See our previous exchange.

Beginning to think this has no connection to your quest.  ??

THANKS cp - This is a very crazy link but I am on the trail of William Surridge because he was a publican in 1855. I have Ann Sorrell Born Boreham marrying George surridge Born Boreham, marrying in Boreham in 1856 but buy 1857 they are in Wormsley -hertfordshire as Innkeeper and wife having their first child. The link with wiiliam surridge is that he too was a publican in 1855 in Ulting, Nr Witham - and I have been trying to see if there was afMILY CONNECTION IN THE BEER TRADE THAT MADE Ann and George move across to Wormsley after their marriage. I am winning - but slowly, and it surprising that the timiest of detail can be just the link we are looking for.
Thank you

This gets better by the minute! I have found a Mary Thorogood - retired innkeeper- visiting Elijah Sorrell in Boreham in 1881. Mary Thorogood's mother in law was an Ann Surridge - born in Wormlsey Herts , so all in all, the sorrells and surridges are well entwined - with various innkeepers thrown in for good measure!
Any other contributions gratefully received!!
