Confused on where to go next

I have been tracing my side of the family with great fun and not too many problems, although I have got stuck a few times but perservance has usually paid off.

However on deciding to trace my husbands side I have drawn a complete blank and have no idea which is the best way to go
I got back to his Grand Father only to find that on the marriage certificate (1905)his father is listed as Crumpton while he is a Hughes.
Can any one offer any assistance on the best way to try and obtain a birth certificate as I am having problems tracking eithe of them on the census sheets.

Have you found the family group on the 1901 census?

The marriage was only a few years afterwards and they could have been living in the same area.

If the family are all together on the census, then the relationships maybe explained.  It could be that the "father" was actually a step-father.

Thomas Joseph Hughes Married Susanah Cockbill 1905 St Michaels & All Saints Langley / Smethwick.
Thomas Dad is Thomas Crumpton Deceased.

I think I have found Thomas Hughes on the 1901 census but he is living & working on a farm away from the family as a Carter.
Hence the problem going further back

Hi Carol

Is there an address for Thomas on the certificate?  How old was he at marriage?  Marriage witnesses? Any occupation given for him or his father?

If he's away from home in 1901 perhaps we can find him in 1891 with some of the above details.

Thomas' father Thomas Crumpton was also a Carter.
Thomas was 21 when he wed making him 17 in 1901
I,m pretty certain this is him on RG13/2730 Page 25 I think it is Folio 76 Rowley Regis Staffordshire.
Living in Titford Road Oldbury / Smethwick

I'd be fairly sure that's him in Titford because in1891 Susannah Cockbill is living in there  so that's obviously how they met. Was it 1891 you found him there ? If so obviously my eyes are letting me down. At least you can be reasonably certain  it's him though.

No I could not find Thomas Hughes in 1891 only in 1901 as a servant on the farm working as a Carter

whats the census number you found him on.
