Armstrong - Nicol marriage
« on: Sunday 08 May 11 10:36 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

Can anyone confirm the following marriage for me, please?

John Armstrong born 1777 in Canonbie (?) married Margaret Nic(h)ol born 1782, the wedding possibly in 1803?

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob

There is an entry on IGI, actual extract from the OPRs, which shows:

John ARMSTRONG and Peggy NICOL Marriage on 3 Dec. 1802 in Canonbie

Possible MI for John and wife Margaret:

....JOHN born 1775 or 1777 Holehouse (Could this be Harelawhole?), (but listed on the gravestone as “of Slackhead) Canonbie DFS who married Margaret NICOL (1782). John was the son of WILLIAM A* (“of Priorhill”) and Margaret CARRUTHERS. William’s father is believed to be MICHAEL born 1718, Harelawhole, who married Mary SCOTT (1716) in 1735.....

John's birth shows on 12 Dec. 1777, christening a couple of days later on 14 December 1777 in Canonbie. Other siblings show also and parents marriage/banns on 11 June 1775.

This info is from the new LDS site http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home

Hopefully you will have his parents' names from his death cert (which some info quotes as being in 1856?).
