Peat & Warren families of Melbourne
« on: Sunday 08 May 11 12:37 BST (UK) »
I have just read with interest the chats about the above families. My husband is a descendant of both. This is what I know for sure: Mrs Warren of the New Inn, Melbourne, was born Ann Trafford in Melbourne in 1771, the daughter of Nathaniel & Mary Trafford. her son, Samuel, took over the New Inn after her death. With regard to the Peats: George Peat was the son of William & Eleanor Peat. He married Catherine Turner in 1771 and they had 6 children. George, William, James, Ann, Mary & Henry. William was a miller who lived at Pool Cottage, and married Ann Manfull in 1798. It was their daughter, Mary, b 1799, who married Joseph Warren in 1823. He was the first Postmaster of Melbourne, and after his death in 1843 took over as Postmistress. The Warrens were Postmasters of Melbourne until the retirement of Joseph & Mary's gt-grandson, Leonard, in the 1970's.
