How do I obtain a Death Notice
« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 21:48 BST (UK) »
Hi

I live in the UK - I want to buy a death notice for my great grandad that died in Tarkstaad in 1914.  I have all the details and despite e:mailing the SA records office numerous times asking how I can obtain his death notice have not had a reply.  Could someone advise me how I go about obtaining one.  Many thanks

I have the name of a reseacher who does the Cape archive (KAB), but you need at least 3 posts before you can send me a Private Message (PM) for his info.

The main post on this bulletin has a post by Empea on this subject.I have copied it for you to read.

The Genealogical Society of South Africa has a "pay to use" service which will enable you to obtain pictures of documents held in the National Archives.

Go to http://www.eggsa.org and select Content --> On Line Shop --> order Archive documents.  Once you have selected the currency, select "Enter the Shop" and then select "Archive photos" (in yellow on the blue band) and follow the instructions.

Much quicker than trying to get the Archives to reply to your e-mail requests!!

Hope this helps Derek.

Hi Derek

Thanks very much for the info - I've been trying since last year to get a response from the records office.  I will give this a go - sounds a much quicker option!

Have just had a look at the link and unfortunately they are not accepting orders for KAB documents - which is the office I need the document from!  Any other suggestions?  Thanks
