1929 Alloa hospital-completed
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 13:05 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am unable to read the name of a hospital that existed in 1929 in Alloa. I found the name on a death registration.
The first part of the name is County which is followed I believe by a word starting with "A...........". Any ideas?

Hi, I had a look on Directory of Scottish Architects for Alloa hospitals, all I see is Clackmannan County Hospital, Ashley Terrace, or Sunnyside, built 1897 by Clarke and Bell. I know it may not be the right one going by your visible letters.
I'll keep looking
cheers

Hi,
The word after County does look a little like " Accident" but did such a hospital exist?

Quote

I found a reference to a report in "The Scotsman" about a mining accident, where the casualty was taken to the "County Accidents Hospital" in Alloa. So if the word begins with A, that is probably what it is. It may not have been the Hospital's proper title, but was probably how it was known.

After 'Googling', it seems that the name is Clackmannan County Hospital in Ashley Terrace, Alloa, so in all probability, would be better known as Alloa Hospital.

A big thank you to everyone who responded. I now believe the locals called it County Accident(s) Hospital even though that was not its true name.
