Anyone going to Kew?
« on: Tuesday 26 April 05 11:03 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone.
I've been doing some research for a friend who lives in Mexico and it would be wonderful if someone could help out with a lookup at Kew.
The man I am interested in is Samuel Hunt born abt 1826. He served in the 41st Foot Regiment (Welch Regiment) from at least 1851 until 1862.
I think he was discharged on pension 1863 (+/- 1) as he has a child on the military GRO in 1862 but the next child is not there and was born in Derby while the regiment was elsewhere.
The 1871 census has him as a Chelsea Pensioner in Derby.

I've never been to Kew in my life (not true, actually went round the botanic gardens many years ago  :)) but I wonder if it would be possible for someone to look in either of the following?

WO97/1863      Foot Guards (discharged to pension)
WO23/48          Chelsea Registers of Out-Pensioners

(Hope I am referencing the right things here)

Samuel is 3xgtgrandfather to my friend and I know she would be thrilled if she got anymore information about him.
Many thanks if anyone has the time to do this :) :-*

Hi, nice of you to reply.
No, I haven't been able to do any more with this. If you would take the details with you and see if you have a few minutes spare then that would be great. I know how time runs away at these places so don't feel any pressure ;D

I'll see what I can do but it will depend on,

a) How swiftly they can dredge those records out for me - I'll already be up to my limit on pre-orders and I 'aint planning a full day there.

b) How many pages my pre-orders are going to contain as I'll be photographing the lot (at least 200 pages).

Mike.

Fortunately, they have purpose-built camera stands for copying so it goes like this:

1. Attach camera via tripod mount, focus on page below.

2. Photograph first page.
