Probably impossible but.....
« on: Monday 16 May 11 13:04 BST (UK) »
This is a pic taken from a newspaper article and is all I have. It's very pixelated and I wondered if there was any chance of smoothing it out a bit. Also there seems to be a black mark on my great great grandfather's chin(5th from left holding drumstick)can that be removed. Thanks for looking and any attempt appreciated.

Newsprint is horrendous to 'improve' George.
Dotscreens and smudges galore.   :-\
Facial features are only a few pixels each way and a smooth brush is certainly going to result in a 'cartoon' at this resolution.

Here's a quick; resize, squared up and contrast boosted version.
If anyone wants to grab it and take it further please feel free.

Sorry friend  :(

Just noticed the chap third from the left had a sizable 'dink' on his forehead.
Swinging those beaters around must have been a hazardous business.  ;D

Thank you Sylvia.Gordon I hadn't noticed that dink,I think it's his hairline or my GG was swinging his sticks a bit too haphazardly ;D.Thankfully he had the sense to stand in a shaft of light for this pic, makes it easier to pick him out.

And that is an absolutely smashing job Caroline, thank you very much. There is a fantastic but poignant article that accompanies the photo. At the outbreak of WWI his three sons joined the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders,by October 1914 the youngest and eldest are dead and then news comes through that the third has also been killed. The pic and article deal with news that he has been found wounded but alive.
Since being given this wonderful photo I have located both boys graves in France.
