Hi again Jon

Where is the information of Janes parents being Henry Gracie
and Margaret Fletcher from please?

There is a VERY detailed tree for Henry Gracie and
Margaret Fletcher online and they have a daughter Jane - only one
born 8/10/1851  Soho London
christened 18/1/1852 St Martin in the fields
died 23/1/1854 of measles Hobart Town Tasmania
Images of all these certificates have been added to the tree
as well as marriage and death certificates for Henry.
(Gee I wish this was a family I was tracing  ;D
so much information )

Yes, I can see the same hence my previous question  :)

BUT I can also see that there was only one son born 1853 in TAS to them before they moved to VIC where they had three more children 1857, 1859 & 1862 which leaves room for another child to be born but not registered as it appears they were around the gold fields at the time  :)

Went back to the drawing board with this one as it just didn't add up  ???

Anyone is welcome to correct me if I am barking up the wrong tree  8)

After much cross checking I have come to the conclusion that Jane GRACIE is NOT the daughter of Henry GRACIE & Margaret FLETCHER  ::)

Instead she is the daughter of William GRACIE (free man) & Eve TATTERSALL (convict).

William & Eve also moved to Victoria where their daughters married. The parents died in the same suburb are buried in the the same cemetery as Jane & the suburb that Jane was living at the births of her children. All which seems to add up much nicer. It seems Jane's mothers name is incorrect on her death certificate.

WoW!!!!  :o :o :o
Merlin - I don't know what to say. Thanx just doensn't seem to cut it. I am gobsmacked by the about of work you have done. AND you were up until almost daybreak. Well done!!
The original information I was provided with came from a cousin who provided me with a gedcom file some time back. After looking at the online trees that Raylen mentioned,  it appears that Henry Gracie and Margaret Fletcher would be a different family but having said that there are other trees that feed into this family, completely discounting the fact that Jane died in Tas in 1854.

Merlin; you said you said you went back to the drawing board because things didn't add up. I agree that things weren't quite right, but where did you start? What did you look for? What was your thinking?

Thanx again  ;)  ;D

Congratulations on all that work MERLIN

I did start looking at that aspect but sleep called me  ;)

I think you are spot on with William and Eve being the parents.

Jon, Some of those trees make me smile.
I saw Jane dying in 1854 and marrying in 1875  :o

Hope this has helped you along the way.  It's been fun

Hi Raylen

Been a bit of an eye opener this one. Originally thought there may have been two sisters with the one who married Brewster having Jane as her middle name and later adopting that name after her younger sister died. Merlin has done a LOT of work and should be proud of the effort.

Yes those online trees are to be taken lightly. I try to stay away from them where I can preferring to evidence things myself or thru experienced researchers. Whilst the best intentions are there in a lot of cases, there are also a lot of instances where someone's work is copied ad nausea, with any and all errors included. There is a lot to be said for doing things correctly and obtaining the right evidence. I think it is Cando who has as their tag "remember that everything is speculation until verified" Very true!!

I just envy the resources that some of the chatters have in being able to research to this level.

Well I bit the bullet and purchased the cert for Jane Gracie's marriage to Brewster. Her parents were William Gracie and Eve Tatteson confirming all of Merlin's hard work....Not that it was ever doubted  ;)

Thanx again. It is very much appreciated.
