Police in Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 00:19 BST (UK) »
I need to ask first whether to be in the Cumberland request or not.
My ggrandfather was born in Cumberland. According to family one of his brothers was a policeman in Liverpool.
Should I stay on this board or go to Lancashire look up requests, or Mersey or Merseyshire lookup requests, for policemen in Liverpool?
My ggrandfather is Thomas GRAHAM born 1859 [son of Thomas GRAHAM and Eleanor ROGAN married in 1857].
for siblings I have:
Jane(?) (Dean 1861 census) christened in 1856
Margaret christened in 1857
Thomas b1859
Annie b1864 Allerby
Mary Jane b 1865 Allerby
Charles christened 1871 Allerby
George christened 1876 Allerby.
Making allowances I do not have a complete sibling list,
I have either Charles or George who was a policeman in Liverpool.
Thomas and his wife immigrated to Canada in 1895.
Both Charles and George would be old enough to be policemen by that time, however I do not know when (one or the other) became a policeman (what year); before, during, or some time after Thomas immigrated to Canada.
Thomas had been living in Northumberland before moving to Canada.
There are alot of GRAHAMs -which board should I go to for help?
thanks,
Razzy

Yes, after Eleanor (the mother) died Charles I see in my research went to Durham where his older brother my ggrandfather already lived and was working in Northumberland.
Charles was present when his mother, Eleanor died in Cumberland.
So the births in Durham match up.
Thomas, when he came to Canada no longer worked in a mine but worked on the railroads in Canada.
I do not know if Charles stayed with the coal mines or switched to being a policeman or
if George went to be a policeman.

Hi again Razzy, I do not believe it is Charles, and I have my doubts it is even George?

The only Graham I could find in the Liverpool area was a William born 1869 Stapleton Cumberland who was a Police Constable in Everton (Liverpool) in 1901?

The 1891 census has Constable John Graham aged 54 born "Alley Town" (Might that be Allerby town? or Abbeytown?) Cumberland, in Everton.

The 1901 census has a Constable Charles Graham aged 26 from Cumberland residing in the West Derby area of Liverpool; and a Constable John H Graham, 32, from Ainstable Cumberland residing in Rainford.

I wonder if this was Tom with his brother in 1881 - Hayton is just a mile or two from Allerby http://tinyurl.com/5v897km

Need to check earlier census.  1861 has no brother William :(

EDIT: The two GRAHAMs in Leicestershire appear to be from "the other" Hayton (by Brampton), so are not of interest to you.  :-\
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

In my research I often have the towns of Allerby, Hayton, and Aspatria mentioned with my GRAHAMs. They are all close to one another.
The grandparents to these siblings (Eleanors' parents) death registerations are in Wigton.
Thomas (b1859) eldest son (John George b1878) birth according to census is also in Wigton.
Would this help?
I do not know how long Thomas b1812 and his wife Eleanor b@1832 had children.
These are the only children I have been able to find myself.
We have (christian names or prenoms of) Williams and Roberts in our family as well, and maybe others.
Again I have only been able to find seven children and within those seven only three boys.
Two of the girls seem to have been born before marriage.
I hope to be of help while you are helping me,
Razzy
