FINNERTY Anne - Co Mayo
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 17:57 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find any information about my GG Grandmother:

Anne Finnerty I think that she was born Approx 1845.

She moved to Liverpool, I have no dates.

She remained in Liverpool and Married my GG Grandfather in Liverpool, Patrick Ryan, in 1863.

I have very very little information about her, any scraps would be welcome.

Regards
Keith

I would start the search by looking for the marriage cert for Anne and Patrick to establish her father's name and occupation.

Since her birth is before the start of full civil registration in Ireland (1864), you would need to check for parish records to find details for her and her family. To start this you first need to know the family religion and where they lived at the time, i.e. which parish, so you can check what records (if any) are available.

Hello Keith,

their marriage is in these indexes http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk/
where you can send for the details by email if you don't have them (a small charge).
There are a couple of Patrick and Anne Ryans in Liverpool.

Is that your family in 1891 RG12; Piece: 2929; Folio 6; Page 6
where Patrick is a Greengrocer born Roscommon and Anne born Mayo

I can't see the family in 1881 though  ???  (Trying to trace them back through censuses).

regards
heywood

Heywood,

Thanks for your message,

Yes these are my GG Grandparents:
I have them Married at St Patricks Park Place on the 25 Jan 1863.

Patrick DOB Approx 1835 Born Roscommon.

Anne Ryan (Nee Finnerty)  DOB: Approx 1845 Born County Mayo.

I have a lot information about the family in Liverpool;

All I have on the Irish side ie in Ireland is what has been written in the Census:

I know that Anne's Father's details are Michael Finnerty he was deceased by 1863.

I know that Patrick's Father's name in 1863 was Patrick Ryan and his trad ewas Labourer.

Gallenruane,

Thank you for your information.

I have checked the census returns.

What is most frustrating about them is when the numerator has just written country of origin Ireleland.

I had a similar problem with my Great Grandfather Peter Petersen Denmark, but in fact he came into UK from his home Island of Faroe Islands.

It is just a matter of chipping away and people on this forum who sometimes make a connection.

Once again
Thanks
