Does anyone have any knowledge or information on West Mark School, Petersfield. I cant find anything about it anywhere and am starting to wonder if it ever existed.

Hello,

I've just started looking for the school within the past few weeks, I've looked through schools in Hampshire without success, the school was mentioned in a letter dated june 1973 that I have, but doesn't give indication of dates that it existed or indeed who worked there, I would have put the dates in if I had them, the letter although not originally sent to me was sent by someone who has since died so I cant confirm anything with her.

I have found references to West Mark School, Petersfield being a camp school for  evacuees and was located near Sheet Common. There is something on the National Archives.

This may well be the lead that I hoped for, it does explain why it was not found among the schools that I searched.

I can give you precise details on West Mark Boarding School (originally located next to Sheet Common, an area the students also knew as the Dell) Petersfield Hampshire. I and my brother were both students there between 1951 & 1956 a period I can tell you holding very happy memories.

I was looking it up to see if I could make contact with two of my favorite teachers (assuming they are still alive) when I came across your request for information about the school. I was at West Mark School for two terms in about 1950.  It was one of the happiest times of my life.  Some years ago I made contact with Mr Evan's Daughter (Mr Evans was the headmaster).  Would love to hear frm any other pupils
