Hi

Burial registers 1867-1967 are also held at Westminster Archives.

http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/libraries/archives/

otherwise Westminster cemeteries office

http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/communityandliving/burials/

There is a burial guide on the London and Middlesex Rootschat main boards which gives links to cemetery offices.

Hi Valda,
Many thanks for your response. I've checked your recommendations however I still cannot obtain an email address for Hanwell or the Cemetery manager. I wrote to the Cemetery Manager almost 4 weeks ago regarding obtaining a map showing the position of a relatives grave. I have not yet recieved a response. I would sooner email their office rather than ring them.

Regards,

Paddy.

Hi

Try the complaints link on the page sent. - the cemeteries team.
I'm presuming you sent a letter with an SAE.
Cemeteries in Westminster are managed by

'the City of Westminster's Parks Service which comprises the City of Westminster client officers and Continental Landscapes Ltd.'

but unlike Hounslow where Continental Landscapes completely runs the cemetery service, Westminster still seem to be managing it and therefore the records.

Since the cutbacks have begun to bite in local authorities personnel from the start of the new financial year responses may be slower to enquiries but a month seems over long.

It used to be Ann.O'Regan(at)rbkc.gov.uk
0208 969 0152
Failing that, go to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea website
 to get the address
Failing that, I have a map of the cemetery which I could copy for you if you have not already sorted it.

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat.

At present there are two cemeteries in London called Hanwell.

Kensington and Chelsea
Hanwell Cemetery, 31 Uxbridge Road W7 (opened in 1855)

City of Westminster
Hanwell Cemetery (formerly named City of Westminster Cemetery) 38 Uxbridge Road W7 (opened 1854)

The City of Westminster took ownership of its cemeteries in 1965 and then controversially sold them for 15 pence in 1987 to save costs. This resulted in the cemeteries being neglected and following a public outcry the Ombudsman ruled the council must buy them back, which it did in 1992. Their renaming led to the confusion of two cemeteries both close together in the London borough of Ealing but managed quite separately by the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster having the same name.

Kensington and Chelsea cemetery office details

http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/communityandlocallife/registerservices/deaths-registeringadeath/cemeteryservices.aspx

City of Westminster cemetery services link already given in previous posting.

I hope that clarifies the situation with the two cemeteries.

Valda

Hi Paddy,

Did you get to contact the Westminster Hanwell Cemetery people?

I found an email address after much searching on the website and contacted them and had a reply very quickly.

Hanwell@continental-landscapes.co.uk

Good luck

Does anybody have a contact email address for Hanwell Cemetery? The cemetery under control of City of Westminster, not Kensington.

Thanks,
