Children of Caroline Briggs b1857 Thorney
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 04:12 BST (UK) »
Hello.

Caroline Briggs b1857 Thorney, Cambridgeshire had three children out of wedlock: Mary 1877, Frederick 1879 and Jane 1888, all born in either Thorney or Peterborough.  I am requesting help with finding information on both Mary and Jane (Frederick being my grandfather and his fate known) as beyond a few census records showing them living with Caroline and or Caroline parents, I know not what became of them.

Thanks,

Ralph

Mary married in 1908:

September qtr 1908
Peterborough    Vol 3b, Page 566

Briggs, Mary
+ and on the same page +
Farrow, Claude
Rose, william Henry

A search on the 1911 census indexes for a Mary, born 1877 in Thorney reveals a Mary Farrow.

And searching FreeBMD throws up this marriage for Jane:

June qtr 1919
Peterborough    Vol 3b, Page 709

Briggs, Jane
Bacon, Nicholas G
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hello,

That is amazing information and so quickly too!  My sincere "thank you" to you both.  As a teenager, my father and I had visited Peterborough and met one of his cousins, who's last name had been lost to my memory, but "Bacon" rings true.  Again, thank you.

Would a request for any progeny information from either union constitute a new request?

Cheers,

Ralph

No - but as we are not allowed to mention living people, I would be reluctant to do this.

I suggest you use FreeBMD, and search for births with the relevant surname, and quote Briggs as Mother's Maiden Name.

Re: Children of Caroline Briggs b1857 Thorney *Completed*

Hello again,

I understand about not wanting to reveal information on potentially living people, so no problems there.  I had also checked the FreeBMD site and found information for Stella I. Bacon.  That is the cousin of my father's that we met back in 1975 on our visit.  I wish I had payed more attention to the conversations, but alas, I was a teenager and not interested in family history back then.  Oh well...

Once again, thanks for the help.

I guess we can call this one "completed".

Cheers,

Ralph
