Marriage at Stanton Harcourt - Clarification Required!
« on: Monday 23 May 11 12:19 BST (UK) »
Could SKS please have a look at the entry in the marriage registers for Margery CRIPES on 28 APR 1606.

On the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index the marriage is recorded twice - once with groom's name Richard HASELL and once with Robert HASLIE.

Is is possible to clarify which name is correct?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks very much for your efforts - I know from experience how hard it is to read these early registers, so mistranscriptions abound!

Transcribed from the register is the following.

Robert Haslie & Marger Gripes ... 28 Apr, 1606
[Written in the margin in a different hand:-]
Richardi (sic) Hasell & Margeria Cripes ... 28 Apr, 1606

So I dont know if you are likely to learn anything more
from the original

Also a Margery Hassel is buried (no age given) 1655 at
Stanton H and two Richards buried (again no age) in 1614 & 1619

There is no Robert Hassel (var) buried at Stanton H
