ww2 army records for Grandfather
« on: Tuesday 24 May 11 05:16 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to obtain army records for my Grandfather. I know next of kin can apply, but my mother was my Grandfathers illegitimate daughter. I have no proof of relationship. I only know his name. He was in the army in 1938 because from that year the army paid maintenance for my mother to my Grandmother after my Grandmother took him to court. If anyone has any advice as to how I can find him, I will be so grateful. Thank you, Alimama.

Two things I would try and get first; a Home address at the time he enlisted and a copy of his death certificate. That is if he is no longer with us. Both could help with your quest.
Perhaps you could give a name, but if you don't want to post one you could send it by P.M.

Therein lies my problem. I don't have an address; date of birth; death certificate or any paperwork bearing his name. I only have his name which my Grandmother told me before she died. I don't mind giving it to you, since thats all I have: James Frampton. It doesn't sound like I'm going to get anywhere with so little to go on, but Thank you so much for responding to my post.

Hi

You need to do some research on James Frampton then, if he is still alive you won't get access at all, if he is deceased then others could be closer next of kin ie widow or children.

Andy

Not very encouraging, Andy, but I fear you are right! Thank you, though.

Hi

It might be worth trying to access the court records if they are not restricted in any way, as that may at least prove your relationship if you do get a chance to apply for the service record. There may also be details in them to help identify him.

Yes, Andy.  I'm currently trying to do that. Not getting anywhere yet. Lots of restrictions for on-line searches, and as I'm in Australia, thats all I can do. But I refuse to give up!
