Looking for MUNDYs from Petersfield
« on: Tuesday 24 May 11 15:42 BST (UK) »
Seeking information on William Mundy's parents and ancestors if possible please.

William Mundy was born in Petersfield  May 1773. William married Ann Compton in July 1799 at St Thomas a Becket Church Warblington - Portsmouth.

I believe Williams parents were Edward and Rebecca. Is anyone able to offer more information as to Edward's birth date and his parents, and Rebecca's maiden name and parentage as well. And if possible their year of marriage?

Any information would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

There does not appear to be a marriage in the Hampshire MI

William is the only child baptised at Petersfield

10 Jun 1778-William MUNDY s Edward & Rebecca

EDWARD & REBECCA are pretty elusive

I did find the following Burials at Buriton a couple of miles from Petersfield

8DEC1780 REBECCA MUNDAY
8DEC1796 EDWARD MUNDAY

Thanks to you both. Buriton is close to Petersfield. Could well be on right track but I do have a concern with Edward born in 1763 being the father of William born in 1773 - he would only have been 10 years old! A bit young I think!

I thought Edward & Rebecca were William's parents ?

The first child in 1754 the last in 1773 ?

A gap between 1763 and 1773 .

The Edward born in 1763 was the son of Edward and Rebecca - and brother to the William born in 1773.  I don't think you need to be concerned.  ;)

Oh thank you - silly me of course he could be the brother - it's amazing how sometimes your mind sticks to one line of thought.

Thanks
