For your information, theres a tree on A,,,,,,Y giving Henry Schumaker born 1819 Hanover Germany married to Catherine Johnson born 1829.

Another idea, The British Queen, steamship arrived Liverpool from New York with 42 passengers, includes, H G Schumaker, Thursday evening April 29th 1841.[Dublin Monitor.]

Thanks for this. I don’t have access to A at the moment but if I recall correctly that tree may have the wrong parents for Henry in 1819 in Germany. I have them as Daniel Schumacher and Ahlke Schachmann and I am reasonably confident that they are the correct parents. I have the birth certificate for Henry.

I don’t recall the tree having the details of Henry & Catherine’s son Henry’s birth in 1846. I may be wrong. If it says at sea there is nothing to back it up. Subsequent censuses all say Ireland. I tried to contact one tree owner to no avail

Interesting re the steamship. I have no idea how he travelled from Germany to Cork but I do have a possible Henry Schumacher age 22 in St George’s Tower Hamlets in the 1841 census. He was a sugar boiler and they often stayed with other sugar workers near refineries. I have no way of knowing whether this is the correct Henry other than him being approx the correct age and staying in a sugar refining district.

I don’t know when he arrived in Cork.

I have been reasonably successful with German and UK records but the Irish records have me stumped

Sorry. unable to get anywhere with this, its quite complex. Will mention though that I believe Catherine Johnston, Henrys wife, may have been born earlier than you think.

Thanks for trying. It is quite complex indeed.

I wonder what leads you to say she might have been born earlier than thought? Very little would surprise me about this family.
