The Workhouses were run by Poor Law Unions, and there were separate areas with their own boards of management and Workhouse, and sometimes also an infirmary and asylum. In Dublin there was one in North Dublin city (North Dublin Union) at Brunswick St, one in South Dublin City at James's St, another in south east county Dublin near Cabinteely in a Union called Rathdown , and one in north county Dublin in the union named Balrothery.
The GRO is the General Register Office, and they look after birth, marriage and death certs. You can order historic certs from GRO Roscommon. They also have a research room in Dublin (Abbey St), where you can search index books and collect possible certs.
