Alexander Robertson Gibson
« on: Tuesday 31 May 11 14:32 BST (UK) »

Alexander Robertson Gibson born May 1884 in Carnoustie Scotland son of  Rev. Alexander Robertson Gibson and Catherine

Bowie I have his death as October 1955 in Vancouver he was buried in Carnoustie in December that year.

I am trying to find out when he went to Canada if he married and if there was any family . At the moment I have been

unable to find a marriage here for him in Scotland.

Thanks
Suzilad

Hi,

Do you have his WW1 Attestation form?  If not, you can get it here.  From the search results page, just click on Front of Form and Back of Form to see the actual image:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0dir/

It says he is married

You can find out more from the BC Death registrations on Family Search.  His death record gives a wife's name:

The wives are different in each record (Mrs. L.P. in the first one and Violet in the second), so I would think he was married twice.

Hello again

I see a border crossing document for Alexander Robertson Gibson born May 1 1884 in Carnoustie Scotland (the transcript on A..Y says March 1, but on the image, the number representing the month of birth looks more like a 5 to me than a 3).  He is going to Montana in 1936.  He is a school inspector and his residence is Cardston, Alberta.  He is going alone and for the day.  His contace is a friend - Judge Mahaffy of Red Deer Alberta.  I can't tell whether the marital status is W or M (the typewriting is smudgy).  He says he came to Canada on the Ionian 5/1/05 and landed in Montreal.

The passenger list for the Ionian (free from the Library and Archives Canada site) has an Alex R. Gibson, aged 21, from Forfar Scotland going to Calgary Alberta to be a farmer.  He is single.  You can look through the whole passenger list here to see if there is another Gibson who fits - but I think this one looks good.  Perhaps he learned to be a teacher and got married in Alberta?

Hi,
I think you are right it is him I had to go to the library earlier on today and had a search there for him . I found him under

Alexander P. Gibson  on the 1911 census living in Red Deer Alberta he was a public school teacher his wife was Lucy born in

Ontario  in December 1888 and they had a daughter Katherine aged 1 month when the census was taken .

I also believe he went under the title of Major A.R. Gibson.MA B. PAED

HI,

Here are Lucy P. and Katherine coming back to Canada from the UK in 1919 after the War.  This passenger list has dependents and soldiers.  I haven't looked for Alexander on this list, but he may be here too.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0dj8/

According to this, Lucy was born in the USA.  Lucy and Katherine are going to Red Deer Alberta to be with Lucy's husband, soldier.
