Death New York 1825
« on: Thursday 28 April 05 10:43 BST (UK) »
Thank you for looking.

In our family bible 4xGt Grandfather William May married Hannah Blezard at Childwall Church, Cheshire Uk June 1814. The next entry regarding him is 'the above William May died in New York June 1825 aged 33'.

There is no other info, how did they find this out as the bible was only started in 1890, I suppose word of mouth?

Any help gratefully received

I would suggest that this was found out by word of mouth or family letters.  The date was too early to be a registered record in NY.

Probably not.  In NY, vitals were registered by town or village depending on size.  You would have to know the exact place of the event.  SOme villages might have kept records that early but I doubt it.  YOu might want to try to find a church.  New York did not keep state swide records until the 1880's.

Oh Poo!!!
How about a change of tack, that side of the family where mainly seafarers, I'm not saying William was, but maybe a look at shipping records to see if he was a passenger or crew. Are you able to point me in the right direction as to where to look?

By the way I really appreciate your help, thank you.
