Collins Family - Kilbeacon,Kilkenny

hello,

My gg grandmother Mary Collins born in Kilbeacon,Co Kilkenny,Ireland. Her parents are Patrick Collins and Ellen Walsh, I believe she has 8 siblings all born between 1862-1878, names are Thomas,John,Patrick,Catherine,Margaret,John,Ellen & another John all born in the Mullinavat parish, some born Ballynoony East and West, and few born in Kilmakevoge. Her sponsors/informants when born are James MacDonald & Johanna Walsh - possibly a sister or Aunt?

There are no Collins in the 1901 census living in those areas, it looks like that have left Kilkenny and moved elsewhere, so this is where I have come to a dead end.

Any help would be appreciated on finding out where the rest of the Collins Family went to this would help to continue my search. Mary came to Australia in 1888 by herself,

Can't see them in 1901 census either (although some/all of the remaining daughters could have married). For reference here are the children and birthdates (from www.familysearch.org)-

3. John (15 Aug.1865 Kilmakevoge- page 853 in civil register)
4. Patrick (12 Mar.1868 Kilmakevoge)
5. Catherine (18 Mar.1870 Kilmakevoge)
6. Margaret (4 Apr.1872 Kilmakevoge)
7. John (29 Oct.1874 Kilmakevoge)- died before 1878
8. Ellen (25 Sept.1875 Kilmakevoge)
9. John (14 June 1878 Ballynoony East)

You haven't mentioned where in Australia Mary landed/settled- could some of the younger siblings followed her out there?

thanks for your reply, I too went through all of the death,marriage records of the siblings and came up with nothing, I have not found them to leave Ireland either, Mary settled in Brisbane,Queensland, she arried on the Eastminster, via Plymouth, I had wondered if the whole family migrated to England but again cam up with nothing, I am really at a dead end. I have been searching for awhile, and I am due to take off on a ancestry hunt overseas, to England,Germany & Ireland and I was hoping to pinpoint if the family had stayed in Ireland or exact location as I would like to visit.

Have you tried checking the Waterford census for your Collins family? Waterford being the nearest big city has played host to many Kilkenny families.

Good thought, Marian, but I searched all Ireland and couldn't find them

I have to checked, it is literally like they just moved out and left the country. We know that until 1878 they were still there in Ballynoony when the last child is born.

Mary arrives in Australia in 1888, so there is 10 years where we dont know where they are...driving me crazy!
