Sturmey family of Shifnal
« on: Monday 06 June 11 09:31 BST (UK) »
Hello

I have a family, the Sturmey's of Shifnal, Shropshire but don't know much about them.
From the IGI I have gathered:
Thomas Sturmey married Mary and had:
Eliza Sturmey (1818)
Jane Sturmey (1820)
Susannah Sturmey (1822)
Marianne Sturmey (1824)

I know all about Susannah, she is my ancestor and she's the only one I have anything on except the baptisms.

When did Thomas and Mary die? Mary's maiden name? Susannah's grandparents? What happened to Eliza, Jane and Marianne? Are any on censuses?

Any help would be really nice with this family.

Thanks alot

Any clues from what you have on Susannah? e.g who were witnesses at her marriage (assuming she married) were they any of her siblings?

Family History is a Pandora's box if you don't like what you see find a new hobby, only concentrate on the proven facts and not the facts you think you know.

Many thanks everyone!

Susannah doesn't seem to give any clues. Witnesses don't seem to be related, they were Robert Boute and Priscilla Wert.

Thank you Pam, that explains what happens to Jane

Also thank you Margp for the baptism record

Thanks very much Pam

It fits in very well with what I have on Susannah, she married a garden labourer as well.

John Benham seems to be hiding!
Am I to take it that Jane was a labourer in gardens?

Hi Pam, thanks alot

It's sad to think, Charles was a gardener at the Baronet's house, while his poor mother was a labourer.
