It was actually two weeks  :) i.e. three Sundays, the marriage could take place immediately after the third reading of the banns.

Just to add that that is not strictly correct, as no minister was oblidged to publish banns unless the parties delivered to him at least seven days before the time required for the first publication, a notice in writing giving their names, address within the parish, and the time they had been living there. However the seven days' notice was not always insisted on, so the time could be two weeks.

This is interesting as I have one dated 1742 that states either of 2 named parishes. Don't wish to take Alex's post over. Can I PM you about it?
