Have you already tried ScotlandsPeople?

When was the last sighting?  Any census after 1868?

An Alexander Broadfoot of Garliestown died in 1870 - no idea if he is the right man, but he left a will.

Hi Nell,

Yes i have looked in scotlands people but no luck, he doe`s not appear on any of the census records although his wife Agnes and his children do,i have always assumed that because he was a mariner that he was always away at sea when it was census time or maybe he just did not want to be on it,very strange!

The 1891 census still has Agnes down as wife so i guess he was still around then, his son William marries in 1897 and on the marriage certificate it shows his father Alexander as deceased so he must have died between those dates.

I have searched several years either side of those dates but still no luck.
