« on: Sunday 12 June 11 17:31 BST (UK) »
struggling with this one,my gt,gr/mother was mary mcintosh stewart (b1866),she married alexander gibson( b1863)in1887in denny (bonnybridge).her parents (on her marriage cert) were george mcintosh,a joiner from denny and mary stewart a servant,
thats all i can find seems to be a brick wall ahead of me.

If the marriage certificate doesn't give a maiden name for the mother, then the parents weren't married. You can look for Alexander Gibson and Mary in the 1891 census and that will give you a birthplace for Mary. That will allow you to locate her birth more easily. If the birth was registered as Mary McIntosh Stewart, it will be easy enough to find in Scotland's People. When you have found the birth and got the area, you can look for her in the 1871 census and see who she is living with - perhaps her mother, maybe grandparents. This 'brick wall' may not be so very solid! Again, once you have established a birthplace, you might find a joiner (wright/carpenter .....) called George M(a)cIntosh living nearby in the 1861 or 1871 census. The birth record may even have a link to the register of corrected entries giving details about George. The minutes of the kirk session might also have a comment, or there might be something in the parochial board records, if they survive.

Graham.

there's an IGI extracted baptism batch C113621 for Kilmadock in Perthshire for

Mary McIntosh Stewart bp 7/4/1866 daughter of Mary Stewart

1891 census has a Mary Gibson with husband Alexander, sons George & John living in Kilmadock with a Mary Stewart aged 60.

Too much of a coincidence?

by the way, there is a George McIntosh in Kilmadock on the 1861 census & he's a joiner, but a bit younger than Mary.
